OLD DRESSER RE-DO

We debated a lot over what we were going to do for sinks in the master bath

I bought this old dresser at an auction and have had it for years...

using it in various display situations

I love the curves..it's what I wanted all along

But B wanted something more contemporary to go with all that carrerra

maybe some big chrome bars with double marble sinks?

But...what about storage?
We discussed baskets under the chrome but really who wants to keep your tooth brush in a basket?
Baskets are more for a guest bath right?

So, I finally convinced him to give this dresser a try

we can always do something different if we don't like it because

it's FREE

it started out of course as wood...it's very heavy...not cheap...nice and solid

I painted it black a long time ago and it's now been in our garage for over a year

or is it two?  I can't remember

yes..we bought 822 in October 3 years ago and moved in January 2 years ago

long enough to become the "holder of all the stuff we are waiting to use when the addition is complete"

this is the original hardware..and I love this old blue box

I will probably use it for something like soaps...I love soaps!

First I paint it white...or Memoir..the color of the bedroom walls

flat wall  paint

I have no access to any of those fancy chalk paints and waxes

unless I really plan ahead...today I went with what I had

so then I give it a coat of Sea Salt..the color of the bath walls

I'm careful with the sandpaper because I know what's under there is black..not wood

I do a very dry brush treatment where I drag the paint across the surface..giving a heavy old look

what are we going for when we do this?

like we found a 300 year old dresser in Marie Antionette's summer cottage?

yes..I think so

(Halloween costume?)

I think this is what's under her dress

I find a poem and use this handy gold craft paint

I don't write in French...just American

I had used vintage wallpaper for drawer liner before..so pretty

It will have double white vessel sinks and some kind of shell display on the top

I think I'm up to about 10 jars of shells these days..oh dear!

I used gold rub and buff..here and there

it was missing one pull..I just used a crystal one that I will probably hang some kind of tassel from

Just a bit of paint, a bit of time and there you go..

I will show photos when it gets in its new home..

I'm kind of reminding myself of my mother washing my pe clothes on Monday at 6 A.M....being the last one of the bloggers to decorate for fall...me...the last Mohican...the late pumpkin bloomer.

I admit...my priorities have been compromised and to tell you the truth I didn't have half a clue where all my autumn bag of goodies was...and to tell you another truth...my stuff is O.L.D.

Maybe one more year and then...out with the old...as they say

I have even taken this couple on vacation to be at the holiday table where we were..they are very old and probably my favorite

I love love prayer candles...I must have 25...all over my house

safe and long lasting to illuminate everything

at the baking station..that I never bake at

might as well have fake pumpkins and nuts

and a wasp nest

a gift from a dear friend!

ok...we have turkey vultures like crazy here...this mister is a new addition

he lights up at night and cracks me up

every time I come in from carrying groceries...he gives me a start!

I have to cover my eyes and it makes me drop my apples.

I mix in pumpkins with old summer flowers..this is mint and those yellow things I can't think of the name of

the zinnias are hanging on...I can't bear to pull them up just yet

On Grace's birthday Betty and I made her a marigold lei 

I had some extra

B always wants to mow the grass..but I love it looking like a meadow

WOOD PROJECT UPDATE

Do you remember the wood project from a blog months ago?

the one where all that raw lumber was stacked and we were painting them one by one

washing them with just a hint of grey?

The light doesn't really capture the color...this looks more gold, but in reality it is a very soft grey

This weekend was spent hanging the fixtures that I've been on the search for since early summer

(better cool those jets)

um...they have no bulbs yet because

WE HAVE NO DANG ELECTRICITY

oh please excuse me..did that seem like I was raising my voice?

Would they not be delightful if they were flickering and dimming?

No need to worry about getting shocked in the back of 822

nope we are but a spec on the electrical radar

This pretty little number was hung over the big tub 

that was in our front yard on this so long ago day

I wrote a blog that I think was called a cialis moment and has caused me to get many many spam comments for the purchase of calming drugs which I am seriously considering purchasing 

to take off the edge off the fact that we have

NO ELECTRICITY 

no...it's not an illusion..

To appease my impatient self, dear hubs gets his cart before his horse and

tries to humor me by hanging this old mermaid masthead we purchased in Santa Fe

be honest...does that brown paper poking out of the light sockets not annoy you just a tidge?

It's been there just like that since

JUNE!

oopsie there I go again

it's pretty gosh darn heavy

and so dusty by all its time in our garage, it blurs the photo

I know it seems like all I do is whine about the stuff that isn't getting done,

but there are two sides to this story...

Our remodel has been extensive...but in a small area...those men could have built a house since last March...hey..wait...maybe THAT explains it...they did build a house since last March...

somewhere else!

2nd side...we have done so very much of this work ourselves

and while it seems poor Mr. PV is always in the dramatic places and I'm taking the pictures of him...well...that's true.
