When we moved to 822 I was excited to know that there was a cellar

!we live in Tornado Alley!

and storm chasing is a very popular thrilling vacation around here

nearly as heart thumping as going down to the basement to be safe

I mean really?  WHO wants to spend any time down here???

well, I do...that is if it could be cute!
and it certainly has potential for that...lots of space, old concrete, bricks, beams, industrial pipes

hmmm...maybe cute air condition man went a little too far on the industrial part
but that's the price you have to pay for new heating and air
(it will be creatively covered up)

Gosh I hate to confess that we probably have enough corks to do this

While the cellar doesn't have the same configuration
this is kind of what I'm dreaming of

we made the decision to tackle the project this winter
first we removed the stairs that led to nowhere

and will have to face some demo issues

the new plumbing and wiring was easy to evaluate

we like the idea of a barrel ceiling with an old Gothic chandelier and art niches

and the new rock walls will look wonderful

  lined with wine storage cabinets

we have a long way to go

tornado season is just around the corner
maybe we could be ready to invite
Mike Bettes down for a bottle of

while he's out and about searching for super cells

I loved your comment about having enough wine corks to do the stairs. I had to hit the basement visiting our daughter and family in Illinois a few years ago. Nothing like having a tornado whistle blowing and chasing the dog around (to get her to go down with us) while carrying a 6-week old baby and comforting a scared 3-year old. We sat on an old dog bed in the basement and all three of us cried. Good times, good times.

I say get it completed in a hurry! I hate tornados. I wish we had a storm cellar here. We had a tornado come thru with the hurricane a few years back and it was terrifying. Make it extra cozy with lots of room for wine...it's very stressful waiting it out, right? Lots of booze!

No way! Your basement looks like ours! You got some mighty good ideas going on there. I might have to steal them. :) Although we are oddly in an area of Alabama that the bad weather seems to go around us (knock on wood), I am SO happy we have the basement, just in case. I love the idea of a wine room. I love Tina's idea is great!

A wine cellar ... You lucky girl! I only have a wine corner in the dining room :-(
I've never experienced a Tornado and imagine it is extremely frightening ... But being safe in a wine cellar sure sounds like a good idea. Looking forward to seeing your wine room.

Tornado or not, I would never come out of this room! Can't wait to see the finished product.

Handy to have wine down there in-case you're stuck down there a while. You'll be coming out with a buzz :)
