RED BADGE OF COURAGE

...and the red sun was pasted in the sky like a wafer....

When I was in 10th grade (40-ish years ago), my English teacher taught me something I still remember.  Our book assignment was Red Badge of Courage by Stephen Crane

Mr. Mitchell taught us about
imagery

he must have really "taught" me because I still remember those words and what they implied
(life goes on)
all these years later

to this day when I begin a book, I find myself searching for that one line
those few words
 that will tell me

"ah yes...this is going to be worth my time"

My latest read
Salmon Fishing in the Yemen

Although it was high summer,  a fire had been lit and table lamps switched on.  The bedroom was warm and softly lit, encouraging me to lie on the bed for twenty minutes rest

And a book I read every year if not more
and always give as gifts

Patience, patience,  patience..is what the sea teaches
patience and faith.  One should lie empty, open and choiceless--as a beach, waiting for a
gift from the sea

Today we finally have a great snow going
a good day for a book do you think?

What is your favorite written word?

Winter is my favorite time to enjoy books. I'm currently reading the Game of Thrones fantasy books. I've not read Salmon Fishing in the Yemen, but did watch the movie. Really charming, and teaches one to have faith.

Gifts From The Sea is one of my all time favourites! It's packed with wisdom, hope and faith. Some lines from books I've only read once stick in my head. "I'm dancing as fast as I can." is one.

A Gift From The Sea is worn and well read in my shelf. I haven't read Salmon Fishing in the Yemen, and I don't like to see the movie before I read the book. Words are magical. Pick my favorite book? Impossible.
Send me some of your beautiful snow please!
