ROCK HOMEWORK

On 8th and Barkley Street there are only four houses

Down the street on 7th, there are also only 4...nestled among the huge shady trees on nice spacious lots
smack dab in the middle of town

These old ranch homes were built by a few "poor turned rich" dirt farmers and cattle barons around the same time..1923.  In Hansford County, I believe there are 5 rock houses in Spearman,
and maybe the same in Gruver.
These two homes have fairly white rock, maybe limestone?  And both feature red tile roofs.

Try as I may, I can't quite seem to get to the bottom of all the rock facts

Arizona Flagstone
This old Arizona Flagstone house is wonderful.  There was another one in the country, but it was demolished.  I was able to get my hands on some of the pavers for my herb garden and walk by trading some mural work with the owner of that home before they took it down.
This home has a lovely backyard with 3 koi ponds

Austin Stone
This is a brand new home being built and the couple actually took their own truck to the Hill Country and picked up the stone.  It is so white..maybe because it's fresh from the quarry

Lueder Stone
We were told that our home is Lueder Stone from Oklahoma.
However, when I googled it, the quarry came up in Texas.
It has such a sandy/orange tone to it which makes it difficult for me to choose a color for the stucco.
Here you can see the difference of the old stone versus the new veneer (pillars).  We think when the grout is cured it will be a remarkable match.

The original stone is inches thick...I've been using all the stone we've removed in my garden spaces

Veneer
Rough Chop Veneer is available in the same natural colors as regular building stone but has precise dimensions. It's "chopped" on all sides to give the stone a more natural look.
Maybe I would feel better about this if it were named
French Chateau instead of Sangria Pueblo

I LOVE New Mexico..but this is not the direction I want to go with 822

Neighbor Mike's home is one that EVERYONE tries to buy from him
his rock is very similar to ours
and...he's not selling

I love the mix of stone, rock, brick and/or stucco

So....now that I have wasted your time all the way to the end of this post
you know no more rock facts than I do

not to worry...no test today

We don't have any houses like that here, but I see them a lot when I visit my in-laws in NC. I love them

I liked learning about the rocks! Who cares so much about matching everything? True style comes from evolving with what you have and what you do with it.

I love the look of stone on homes, it gives such a richness & adds a lot of value as well.

Thank you so much for your well wishes.

Good job with your research... I'm most familiar with Austin Stone... seems like they use it everywhere here. It was fun to see all the different styles and colors in your area. Your place is going to be FABULOUS!

Never time wasted at Pura Vida :-)
I love stone houses. Would love to find a little stone cottage in the countryside. I am not familiar with Lueder stone. Looking good!

We have lots of granite here and limestone, so you'll see lots of houses with this. Thanks for the lesson, you've got me thinking about where the stone around here comes from.
